Intraocular Injection

Intraocular injections are a key treatment method in ophthalmology, primarily used for delivering medication directly into the eye, particularly the vitreous humor. These injections are crucial for treating various eye diseases, such as: age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and uveitis. These injections, often containing anti-VEGF agents or corticosteroids, are crucial for managing swelling, abnormal blood vessel growth, and inflammation within the eye.

These include medications such as:

  1. Anti-VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) agents, including Avastin (bevacizumab), Eylea (aflibercept), and Vabysmo (faricimab), are used to slow the progression of wet AMD by inhibiting abnormal blood vessel growth.
  2. And corticosteroids, like Ozurdex (dexamethasone implant) and Iluvien (fluocinolone acetonide implant), are used to reduce swelling, leakage, and the growth of abnormal vessels in the retina.
